KARC was awarded the City Planner position in the City of Beacon beginning in January 2024. KARC’s role as City Planner is to support the City Administration, City Council, and Planning Board in efforts to update municipal policy, amend zoning code regulations, review site plan applications, and provide general municipal planning services.
KARC works with the Planning Board on a monthly basis to facilitate the site plan review process and prepare reports regarding the soundness of proposed development applications from a planning perspective. KARC’s review considers code compliance, siting of buildings, parking layout, lighting and landscaping design, architectural design, SEQRA compliance, and compatibility with the City’s 2017 Comprehensive Plan.
Throughout 2024 KARC has also assisted the City with general planning and policy initiatives including a city-wide reform of parking requirements, coordination with Metro North on development of parcels near the Beacon Train Station, and facilitation of the Fishkill Avenue Concepts Committee to develop conceptual ideas for improvements to the northeast section of the City of Beacon along the Fishkill Avenue corridor.
